Whateef

I am setting myself up like I have the past two years. I’ve been a Commodore fan for far longer, but only in the prior two season’s have I begun to think we had a legitimate chance of knocking off the bigger teams in the SEC and possibly going to a bowl. The team my freshmen year was JV.

We’ve proven we’re capable of playing with the “big boys” and occasionally knocking off a few of them, but it’s time to continue with the transformation into a legit team and show that we can do so with consistency.

Of the four remaining games, I think we have a better shot of winning the next three than the one tomorrow. With that being said, I honestly think we can beat the Gators:

Their athleticism scares me immensely, but taking a step back and looking at the match up, I realize that we actually have athletes lining up in our secondary who can, as an entire unit, hang with every single one of the Gators offensive weapons. Sure Harvin will get his stats, but we proved last year we were capable of limiting his overall production. “Timmy” Tebow is obviously a dangerous running and passing threat, but is suffering an injured throwing shoulder. Hopefully this will negatively affect his ability to pass and enable us to focus more on their running game.

Defensively…Georgia, a team we held to 20 points, put up 42 on them. Every piece I read on Florida’s defense talks about how they’re ranked 87th nationally in pass defense, but I hope we call a balanced game. The few times I’ve watched them this year, their defensive front save Derrick Harvey didn’t look anything special. People have been able to pound them with the running game. Hopefully our offensive line will play even better than they have the past few weeks and enable us to control the clock while getting the ball to Earl and the other receivers, while mixing in misdirection plays we effectively used against UGA.

I don’t have anything different to say in regards to what we need to do in order to win other than the obvious, but here are the ones I think would help:

- The quarterbacks cannot continue to have the expected brain fart

- Cassen Jackson-Garrison cannot have one of his routine fumbles

- Another wide receiver needs to have a huge day

- A tight end could raise his hand and let us know he’s on the team

Most importantly, we need to not make the, expected, dumb mistakes in the 4th quarter that lose the game. We’ve proven we can do it; now let’s show we can do so on a consistent basis.

Am I being the delusional Vanderbilt fan who during the past two years has tricked himself into actually thinking the ‘Dores were good enough to go to a bowl game? Possibly, but I hope not for my mental sanity. It’s time for us to be better that just a team who can play with the state schools and actually finish something off.

it's Tebow's non-throwing shoulder that is injured....
