Something Evil Appears on the Horizon...

Tomorrow is a huge day for Commodore Basketball. Not only is their chief in-state rival travelling to nashville for a showdown in Memorial, but that rival also happens to be ranked #1 in the country. Speaking of in-state rivalries, is anyone else fed-up with Vanderbilt not being included with the likes of UT and Memphis? Calipari said the other day that he wants to begin playing a game with UT every year, in Nashville, and call it "The Governor's Cup." How can you have a "Governor's cup" and not have Vandy in the mix as well. One could argue that over the past 10 years, Vanderbilt has been more of a consistent basketball team than the Vols, who were brought out of Buzz Peterson's obscurity by Coach Bruce Pearl.

Anyway, moving on. I am extremely excited about tomorrow nights game. I tried to think of any possible scenario that I could make it to Nashville for the game, and still make it to work on Wednesday. Unfortunately, those plans have most-likely been squashed thanks to the space-time continuum. Im still working on the teleporter.

I am not really sure what to expect. I know that we have a huge home court advantage, but watching UT go into an extremely hostile FedEx Forum, and take care of business was discouraging. I am also questioning the "White-Out" strategy by the Vandy folk. Maurice Patton made a great point in the Tennessean this weekend: Our colors are black and gold; UT's colors are White and Orange. Can someone let me know why we will be wearing the opposing team's colors on National Television, nonetheless? A black-out would have been wiser, and more intimidating for that matter. But, let's be postive, shall we?

First of all, I don't know what to think about the pace of Saturday's UT vs. Memphis game. I think we would benefit from a slower pace that allowed us to set-up the offense and work the ball inside to AJ, but at the same time a run & gun could be beneficial if Shan is feeling up to the task.
All in all, this game suits up as one of the best Vandy Basketball games, that I can remember, in the last 10 years. I hope it meets the expectations. Your thoughts?

I, too, am discouraged by the white-out, mostly because all the stuff I own is either black or gold, and whipping together a respectable white-out outfit may include an old sheet with eyeholes poked in it, ET-style.

but I digress. the game is what matters here, and I'm glad you brought up pace - the speed of Saturday night's game at FedEx was intense, but I'm not worried. First of all, we played a strong game against Georgia despite several of the guys being off their feed. Our energy on Tuesday should be such that we can perform at whatever pace we like. While I love love love watching AJ at the post, both Shan and Red are strong headed into tomorrow night.

Mostly what i'm nervous about is turnovers. With only six or so against UGA, I'm optimistic, but I keep having flashbacks to the previous UT game. what keeps me going is knowing that the team has really matured, especially across that losing streak, and the team I saw on Saturday is more than ready to take on the orange nasty in Memorial.

Sorry you won't be able to make it, Marv. I'll yell something inappropriate at the UT bench for ya.
